Mobilefrass is no more

You may have already guessed that.

I am now posting scrapbookish daily images, text, sound etc to http://daily.fishoutoforder.net (powered by Posterous). I have also merged all the old posts from this blog into Fish out of Order Daily. I won't actually delete this blog, however.

I find Tumblr/Posterous more effective for this kind of blog - snippets of information and impressions. Blogger (and similar sites, like Wordpress) offer a different kind of blogging experience that lends itself to lengthier opinion/news pieces. Possibly all that is locked up in my head, and the appearance of new hosting systems allows me to rethink how I use them.

Blogger is still the cheapest way to have your own domain, Google Apps, and basic maintenance-free CMS. So it's what I use for my professional blog. Although I'm tempted to drop it now and rely on the wonderful flavors.me I'm just not confident Flavors will be around for my entire lifetime, awesome though it is.

I enjoy using Tumblr for small art projects - while some of the UXD leaves a little to be desired, it is certainly fast and slick. Posterous I use for hobby-blogging and scrapbooking on a larger scale - my only real complaint with Posterous is that it runs a little slowly - don't know if that's a bandwidth issue or a code optimisation issue.

The idea of having a shared mobile blog with my partner was a lot of fun, but he kinda stopped posting after he became a full-time student with a part-time job, funnily enough.

Anyway, thanks to all who subscribed, and I hope to see you at Fish out of Order Daily :-)

Blood candy

As a thank you for attending the Blood Donor Award Ceremony for the Red Cross this morning, we were given giant lollypops the colour of blood. I got type O!

How does it taste? Sugar-flavoured! Well, raspberry-ish. Vampires must have quite the sweet tooth.

e monkey pour coffee on mah boots

So, uh, I got a lift on someone's motorcycle today, but the right passenger footrest popped away and I ended up resting my foot on the exhaust pipe without realising it. So my boot melted! (I thought I was just getting a foot cramp until I tried lifting my foot to find it stuck. Good thing I had really thick soles - it melted through about an inch and a half of plastic!

Here is the melted boot and my un-melted boot for comparison. I'm disappointed because I only got them in May this year for my trip to Sydney for the FullCodePress competition, and it's really hard to find well-fitting knee-high boots. On the other hand, I think it's hillarious. In the end, it's just a material possession :P

Levelling up in the kitchen

I was bemoaning the fact that it is impossible to level up properly in real life, and that gaining new Perks in Fallout 3 sounded much more worthwhile than doing my chores to Karl... so he made me an exp bar on the refrigerator :D Karl wins at cheering me up!

Awesome portrait

One of our designers at work (Miles Noel) painted a commissioned portrait of our department's Director, who has been working at Scitech since it opened 21 years ago. Really impressive stuff, such a warm image. I'd love to see a series of these decorating the office walls!
